The Abermain Railway Branch left the Cessnock Branch just to the west of Abermain. It parallelled the main line until after Neath, where it headed south to the Abermain No 1, No 2 and No 3 Collieries.
The line was privately owned by Abermain Colliery Ltd (now Coal and Allied Ltd).
The formation is visible at places alongside the Neath-Kearsley road.
