The Rutherford Branch left the Main North on the Newcastle side of Rutherford Station. It extended north for some 1.4km to Rutherford Racecourse.
At one stage the Racecourse station was used to house some trams in preparation for a Tramway Museum, but plans for this never came to fruition.
